The Smart Guys

If you were fortunate enough to tune into ESPN's bracketology tonight, you would have heard the brilliance of the Duke Law graduate and honesty whore, Jay Bilas. When talking about how he thought that Cornell would make it to the Sweet 16 of the East Regional, and then defeat the Kentucky Wildcats in a game of basketball (apparently, basketball means Trival Pursuit in Duke Blue Devil lingo), Bilas preceded to say that in this matchup of a basketball powerhouse and the number 2 overall seed in the tournament, against a group of guys that remind you of that one kid in a college classroom that keeps asking the professor questions at the end of class; you know that guy, the one who comes into class with a laptop and a notebook, while listening to the smooth sounds of old school Phil Collins blasting through his iPod touch. Well, one would call this guy smart, naturally. Bilas was quoted as saying that in this epic battle, that he is taking "the smart guys"....now I'm not one to point fingers and claim that something is racially charged or even in bad taste, but let's face it, Bilas stuck his foot inside of his well opinionated mouth, the quote was not meant to be a shot taken at the University of Kentucky or it's players, but Bilas may have said it in the wrong way. I for one, will be interested to see how this plays out over the next day or so, will Bilas issue an apology? Or will this small, oral diarrhea, blow over?

In other news, if you have not seen the Reggie Miller vs. The New York Knicks production on ESPN, drop everything you're doing, find someone who has Tivo'd it, and lay on their couch for the next two hours while watching this great, great sports documentary.
