Breaking Down the Brackets Pt. 2

Earlier I took a look at the left side of the bracket, the Midwest region being won by top seed Kansas, and I picked a big time upset, Vandy to win the West and head to Indy.

Now lets look at the right side of the bracket: East and South Region

EAST: The east region is a tough and physical region. The number one seed Kentucky Wildcats will have three brutal games after their first round game with East Tennessee State, who are winners of 13 in a row. That being said, if Kentucky wins (which I think is a forgone conclusion) they might have to play a team who was ranked number 1 early this year in Texas. This game might be the game of the tournament! If you asked me at the first of the year which two teams in America were the most talented I would have said UK and the horns. Texas matches up well at each position with the Cats, but they are the perfect case of Dr. Jekyll, Mr. Hide. If the no defense playing Horns show up UK will probably prevail by 10 to 15 points. If Rick Barnes get this team playing pressure defense and using Pittman in the low post game, it could be the game of the tourney! Damien James, Avery Bradley, and Pittman could be a testible fow for the Big 3 of the CATS (Wall, Cousins, and Patterson). If the Cats prevail they would look at another physical ball club, and probably the most physical in the nation in Wisconsin. Never go against Bo Ryan and the boys around tourney time. After that, West Virginia would await in the elite 8. Huggy Bear has his team playing well right now, and DeSean Butler is the real deal! He's one of those guys that can lead a team to the promise land. I'm anxious to see how things turn out. Watch out for a dangerous, sharp-shooting New Mexico team as well.

Intriguing, Possible Matchup: Kentucky vs Texas, All I can say is sit back and enjoy!

Possible Cinderella: I'm not going to be like Jay Bilas and say Cornell, because I don't want to feel the rath of another great blogster in Tyler Lykins lol..... In this region watch for the Washington Huskies, I know the Pac-10 was weak this year, but the Huskies have an up-and-down mentality and love to fire it up. Isiah Thomas (Not that one!) is great guard along with Quincey Poindexter watch out for the Huskies to maybe knock off Marquette and New Mexico and get to the round of 16.

My Pick for Indy: The youngsters get it done, through hell, fire, and brimstone Kentucky makes it out of this physical bracket.

SOUTH: The south bracket could get wild and wacky. It's certainly a good place for a Cinderella team to wear the glass slipper. Duke comes in as the number 1 seed after winning the ACC Tourney. They could be short timers in second round matchup against Louisville. The Blue Devils can go cold sometimes and if they aren't hitting on the perimeter, Ricky P and the Cards can send the Devils back to Durham. Edgar Sosa might be the breakout star of this tourney. He has star power written all over him if he can keep his emotions in check and be patient. I see the 'Ville making it to the elite 8 to play a Villanova ball club who will have a couple of tough games in the Richmond Spiders, who will back cut you all over the place, and have a little guard named Kevin Anderson, who is quick, with a dynamic crossover. Baylor also might have something to say about this in a SWEET 16 matchup. Baylor is probably in the top three teams in this tourney when it comes to overall athleticism.

Intriguing, Possible Matchup: Duke vs Louisville, Pitino takes on Coach K, again!

Possible Cinderella: Notre Dame, I know this is a Big East ball club, but if they are shooting the ball well.....Watch out! They could make a run at Indy.

My Pick for Indy: Villanova, stop Scottie Reynolds and Corey Stokes from winning in March....Easier said than done!

FINAL FOUR: Kansas over Vandy, UK over Nova

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP: Kansas cuts down the nets, as Kentucky finally falls and the big three take their individual games to the Mecca, the NBA

Until next time, Adios!

  1. I was thinking Notre Dame as a darkhorse in the South too.

  2. The South is WIDE open if Duke makes an early exit, which they've gotten pretty good at.
