Lame Duck Tubby?

Tubby Smith has already been a candidate for the job at Auburn this off season, well let's look at the possibility that Smith leaves the cold tundra of Minnesota and heads to the Pacific Northwest to become the Oregon Ducks next head coach. With Ernie Kent being fired after 13 seasons, the Ducks are shooting high with their list of possible coaching replacements, candidates such as:
- Mark Few
- Billy Donovan
- Jamie Dixon
- Tubby Smith
All of these names have been thrown around, the first three aren't going to happen. Few has turned down Arizona and Indiana in the last two years, Donovan said no to Kentucky and the Orlando Magic, while Dixon turned down California and Arizona, all of these guys are content. But Tubby is the intriguing candidate, he is at a job that he seems to be fine with, but can he really take Minnesota to the next level? In fact, can he get them to be a team to compete for Big Ten Championships? Which based upon the tournament thus far, is the best conference in America. If Smith were to make the jump to Oregon, he would walk into a situation where he would have new and great facilities, unlimited resources (thanks in part to Nike CEO, Phil Knight,) a higher salary, and the chance to play in an easier conference at a school with a larger recruiting base.

Now, I have no idea if Tubby would take this opportunity, in fact, if Oregon calls, he might hang up the phone before they get to the part about wearing a different jersey every game, but I think this would be a good fit for both Tubby and Oregon. You can say what you want about Coach Smith and his time at Kentucky, but there is no better tactician or adjustment coach in college basketball, with a good staff and the ability of Tubby to teach defense and get his guys to play hard, he can succeed there. If Oregon is smart, they will make their first call to the man we all know as Tubby.

Let's hear your thoughts.

  1. Oregon would be good for Tubby. A different atmosphere, with the same winning expectations he had at Minnesota.
