Mass Exodus?

Word around Columbus (site of the McDonald's All American game which is on TV right now) is that UK recruits are being told that Kentucky will be losing 5 players to the NBA this offseason.

According to CatsPause, UK target Doron Lamb said that Coach Cal told him "the whole freshmen class is leaving", and that there will be 9 open scholarships. the question is whether Cal meant that literally. Patterson, Wall, Cousins, Bledoe are all gone according to MANY reports. Then there's the 3 seniors that are obviously gone. Liggens and Harrelson are both coming back. That leaves 3 question marks: Daniel Orton, Darnell Dodson, and John Hood.

- Ortons dad apparently told Jerry Tipton of the LHL that his son will declare for the draft, but not hire an agent which would leave the door open for his possible return to Lexington. A followup came out saying Orton has yet to declare.

- Reports are also popping up that Darnell Dodson will be transferring. I don't know the basis for these rumors and a transfer just doesn't make sense here. Darnell got plenty of playing time and even a couple of starts for one of the top teams in the country.

- Some also believe that John Hood will be moving on and transferring. Although him transferring would make a lot more sense than Dodson, this is merely speculation.

This past October we were introduced to a completely new UK squad at Big Blue Madness. Prepare yourself for a possible deja vu come this October as we could see as many as 9 new Cats taking the floor at Rupp.

  1. See, this is my exact point in my post below, if we keep doing this, we will never build consistency, and to top it all off, we can lose scholarships for a horrible graduation rate.

  2. I don't think we'll be in situations like this often, because quite frankly I don't think we'll have recruiting classes this good very often. You have to go all the way back to the Fab Five at Michigan to find a recruiting class as good as this one was, and some would argue that ours was better.

I fear that with Cal getting the best recruiting class of the last 20 years, he might have done to himself what Tubby did by winning a title in his first year.
